A Brand New Design For The Norfolk Sister City Association

Norfolk Sister City Association

Norfolk Sister City Association

Five years ago, before responsive website design was mainstream, we developed a lovely, vibrant, non-responsive website for the Norfolk Sister City Association (NSCA). As the organization has grown and technology has evolved, so have the needs of their users.

Jennifer Priest - Norfolk Sister City Association

United Networks has worked with three executive directors during their tenure as web designer for Norfolk Sister City Association. Through two website updates, training of two directors, implementation of a new membership database and general graphics support, they have displayed the highest levels of professionalism, patience and good humor. I have referred United Networks to other businesses and non-profits and will continue to do so at every opportunity.

Today we’re excited to share with you the newly re-designed NSCA website! It’s fully responsive, has a powerful, full-width layout, and integrates their event system among others. The homepage shows views of each sister and friendship city with the word “Welcome” in their native language. It includes a powerful mobile menu that makes site navigation easy on phones. It’s performance and search engine optimized so it’s found easily and loads quickly.

In the time since the new website was launched, NSCA has seen a 57% increase in sessions. Not bad! We’re looking forward to seeing all the things the Norfolk Sister City Association will do with their new website.

The Norfolk Sister City Association is a nonprofit citizen diplomacy organization that creates and strengthens partnerships between the City of Norfolk, VA and its international partner communities. Check them out on Facebook and be sure to visit their new website at www.norfolksistercities.org!

Seven Sites for Hampton Roads Transportation

When you dispatch cabs for six different companies in five cities your websites need to appeal to a lot of different kinds of customers. They’ll find you through search engines, websites,  advertisements, and word of mouth. They will be using hundreds of different types of devices but most of them will have a single goal: to book a cab.

Once again the team at United Networks hit it out of the park! We are so happy with the complete redesign and launch of seven, yes seven websites! United Networks created modern, fresh sites that really impact our market. They certainly are experts in web design and web marketing.

Frank Azzalina Director of Business Development Hampton Roads Transportation, Inc. September 30, 2015

Hampton Roads Transportation, Inc. (HRTI) and the six cab companies needed an overhaul of their websites and they wanted each of them to make it easy for a customer to book a cab right away through a phone call or App-a-Cab, a smartphone app which we developed the website for back in February. We built the responsive websites using a WordPress multisite installation to simplify future updates and management. Each site includes dozens of little touches including customized dynamic headers, the fantastic ShiftNav Mobile Menu, custom fields to make multisite management easier, electronic forms that are stored in the database, and design variations that look great on tablets and phones.

The sites were also search engine and performance optimized, and it has already paid off with massive increases in website traffic since the sites were launched.

On average, the sites have seen a 215.20% increase in sessions, a 162.77% increase in users, and a massive 634.28% increase in organic traffic from search engines comparing a three week time period before and after launch.

These results are due in part to optimization but also because we took the time to create sitemaps, setup 301 redirects for all of the existing links from the old sites, and configured 404 reporting tools to handle anything that was missed. This meant that users rarely saw a broken page and we captured all of the traffic that sites often lose during a transition as significant as this one. We created custom meta language to capture clicks from the organic listings and made sure that everything was seen as mobile friendly and error-free by Google. All of the work has paid off; HRTI and the cab companies are seeing great results. We look forward to working with them in the future and, hopefully, hearing from you when your project is ready!

Website Launched: Virginia Coalition for Immigrant Rights

Virginia Coalition for Immigrant Rights

Virginia Coalition for Immigrant Rights

A website is about more than telling your audience how to get in touch, or what you sell, or what you do. It’s about connecting with an audience. The Virginia Coalition for Immigrant Rights has a diverse audience of millions across the Commonwealth of Virginia and we have created a website that connects them to the resources they need.

By implementing a responsive website using WordPress we gave Virginia Immigrant Rights (VIR) a presence that helps them connect the way their visitors want, via any device type, anywhere, anytime. Social media is featured prominently in the main menu and throughout the site to keep the conversation going, and we added several additional elements that give VIR several ways to get information to their users.

  • Blogs – The website features several categories of blogs which allows VIR to post for specific audiences and share socially without making followers hunt for information.
  • Interactive Map with User Submission – In order to help bring resources to the attention of VIR’s audience we implemented an interactive, searchable and sortable map with a form so visitors can submit new companies and organizations.
  • Membership System – VIR is a membership-based organization so we integrated a fully featured membership management system into WordPress which gives them the ability to control what content the public sees and what’s available only for members. The system supports multiple plan types and VIR can manage their members and allows for content to be restricted based on the type of membership.

In addition to these features, we’ve also integrated the wonderful ShiftNav mobile menu to provide a better experience on mobile devices, integrated analytics software, tweaked the SEO settings and all the other little things that make a site work and look great.

Virginia Coalition for Immigrant RightsLast, but not at all least, we created a snazzy logo and branding element for Virginia Immigrant Rights. It shows the diversity of their audience in a way that is fun yet professional. It’s memorable in a good way.

The Virginia Coalition for Immigrant Rights seeks to improve the quality of life for undocumented and low-income immigrants through legal assistance, civic engagement, and community partnerships. You can see the new site at www.virginiaimmigrantrights.org or follow them on Facebook and Twitter.

App-a-Cab – A Mobile Site For a Mobile Company

Just over a year ago the folks at Hampton Roads Transportation, Inc launched a taxi booking app called App-a-Cab. After focusing on the app they decided to turn their attention to the website and give it a little love.

We worked with HRTI to develop a fully responsive website built on the WordPress platform that allows their customers to access an optimized version of the site anywhere, anytime, and from any device. The site features a dynamic download feature that detects the platform a user is on and serves up the appropriate link to download the app. Users just click “Download” and they get the right version of the app every time. If they’re on a desktop they get a special landing page with more information about the app and the Web Booker utility.

We are extremely pleased with the work United Networks did designing our new App-a-Cab website. They were easy to work with and understood what we wanted, worked quickly, and also recommended many elements of design we would have never thought of. United Networks understands digital platforms and was able to create a modern, sleek new website for our constantly changing market. I would recommend United Networks to any company looking to enhance their digital footprint and showcase their brand.- Frank Azzalina - Director Business Development, Hampton Roads Transportation, Inc.

In addition, we implemented the excellent ShiftNav Pro Mobile Menu which gives mobile users a great navigating experience without slowing down the site or getting in the way. No clunky floating menus or too-tiny-to-touch links; just a smooth, off-canvas experience that is there when you need it.

App-a-Cab dispatches 24/7 taxi services for the entire Hampton Roads area including Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News and all Military Bases within those cities, as well as all area airports. The app and Web Booker feature were developed by MTData. Check out the new site at www.appacab.us and follow them on Facebook and Twitter!

New & Improved: Virginia Interfaith Center

Based in Richmond, Virginia, the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy (VIC) is Virginia’s oldest faith-based advocacy group. They are the parent organization of Virginia Consumer Voices, whose website we recently revamped. The folks at VIC gave us a call when they were ready to overhaul their own website and we got to work.

Virginia Interfaith CenterThe existing site was developed on the DotNetNuke platform which VIC wanted to get away from. After reviewing their needs we recommended WordPress and analyzed their analytical data to provide guidance for improved navigation and design. VIC decided to go with a more streamlined design, eliminating pages their visitors weren’t using and adding content to more popular areas.

We’re so excited by our new website layout and design. Scott was amazingly patient and helpful in steering us along toward a completely new website. Our site is not only navigable for our members and search engine optimized, but it is now far easier to update and maintain (a huge relief). Whenever we had yet another question or another idea to add to the mix, United Networks handled our needs in a timely and professional manner.- Robin Gahan - Director of Programs, Virginia Interfaith Center

The final design is responsive, bright and colorful, search engine optimized, and highly visual. Calls to action are outlined more clearly, the user experience has been optimized and we incorporated and customized the ShiftNav mobile menu for a great mobile navigation experience.
